Environmental Engineering Specialist - Northeast Region (Upstate New York, Vermont, Boston)

 

Piper Maddox is partnering with a longstanding industrial water treatment company, searching for an Environmental Engieering Specialist to support their growing company and existing client base.

 

Currently backed by private equity, this nationwide organization is looking to build the biological wastewater team in the Northeast Region.

 

This role is high impact, client facing role that is focused on supporting & building relationships across wastewater and industrial treatment markets, while delivering hands-on technical expertise.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and grow relationships within an existing customer base across wastewater and industrial treatment facilities
  • Provide technical expertise and optimization strategies for biological treatment systems, including aerobic and anaerobic processes
  • Assist in delivering and managing chemical treatment programs and solution-based services
  • Build strong relationships with plant operators, engineers, and key decision-makers
  • Travel to customer sites (8-12 days/month) to support client engagement and system performance

 

Background & Experience:

  • Engineering degree
  • Foundation in engineering fundamentals, including calculations, concentrations, excel, etc.
  • Experience with biological wastewater treatment systems
  • Experience working in a plant or industrial environment
  • Ability to travel 8-12 days/month
  • Strong communication skills and an interest in a client-facing / technical sales-oriented role
  • Interest and a willingness to learn both the technical and commercial side

Lead Environmental Engineer – Renewable Energy Piper Maddox has been exclusively retained by a leading renewable energy developer and owner to appoint a Lead Environmental Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity to join a global clean energy organization delivering utility-scale wind, solar, battery energy storage (BESS), hydroelectric, and other renewable infrastructure projects across North America.As a Lead Environmental Engineer, you will play a critical role in guiding environmental permitting, impact assessments, and compliance strategies throughout the full project lifecycle. Working alongside engineering, development, construction, and environmental specialists, you will help ensure projects are delivered responsibly while meeting regulatory, environmental, and commercial objectives.Key Responsibilities Lead environmental engineering activities throughout project development, permitting, construction, and commissioning phases. Prepare, review, and manage environmental documentation required to secure permits and regulatory approvals. Identify environmental constraints and risks during site selection, project development, and acquisition due diligence. Conduct and oversee environmental due diligence, feasibility studies, permitting strategies, and environmental monitoring programs. Manage external environmental consultants and contractors, ensuring deliverables meet project requirements, technical standards, and regulatory expectations. Support Business Development, Engineering, Construction, Project Management, and HSE teams on environmental compliance and permitting strategy. Develop environmental monitoring plans covering areas such as wildlife, habitat, noise, vegetation, and protected species during construction and operations. Participate in meetings with regulatory agencies, permitting authorities, landowners, and other project stakeholders. Prepare technical specifications, scopes of work, and support procurement activities by evaluating consultant and contractor proposals. Support project planning, budgeting, CAPEX/OPEX estimates, scheduling, and construction risk assessments. Ensure projects remain compliant with environmental permits, regulatory obligations, and industry best practices throughout execution. Mentor junior environmental professionals and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the engineering organization. What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or another relevant scientific discipline. Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 4 years of experience supporting environmental permitting, compliance, or environmental engineering within renewable energy, infrastructure, utilities, or large-scale construction projects. Strong knowledge of environmental permitting regulations and approval processes for renewable energy developments. Experience preparing or reviewing Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs), environmental due diligence reports, and environmental monitoring plans. Familiarity with IFC Performance Standards and environmental compliance frameworks is highly desirable. Experience managing environmental consultants and multidisciplinary project teams. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and GIS software. Strong project management, organizational, and analytical skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with regulators, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple projects while working independently in a fast-paced environment. Fluent English required; Spanish or Italian language skills are considered an advantage.
