Lead Project Manager – BESSLocation: GibraltarContract: Fixed-Term Contract (Initial term through January 2027, with potential extension)Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience We are supporting a renewable energy developer and asset owner seeking an experienced Lead Project Manager to take ownership of a high-profile Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Gibraltar. This is not a traditional greenfield construction role. The project has already reached commercial operation and is now entering a critical phase focused on project completion, remediation works, technical optimisation, and operational readiness. The successful candidate will act as the owner's on-site representative, managing contractors, coordinating stakeholders, and ensuring all outstanding technical and construction activities are delivered successfully. The project is a strategically important energy asset supporting an island grid network and requires an individual with a strong technical background in BESS systems, capable of leading engineering discussions whilst managing project delivery. Responsibilities Lead the completion of all outstanding project works, defects, punch-list items, and close-out activities.Act as the primary interface between the client, contractors, OEMs, consultants, and internal stakeholders.Oversee remaining civil, electrical, communications, and auxiliary system works.Manage technical optimisation activities across the BESS, EMS, PPC, SCADA, and associated control systems.Support operational performance validation and implement corrective actions where required.Coordinate procurement and delivery of outstanding materials and equipment.Manage project schedules, budgets, variations, and contractor performance.Ensure all HSE, QA/QC, and compliance requirements are maintained throughout project completion.Lead project reporting, stakeholder meetings, and client communications.Oversee preparation and completion of all as-built documentation and final handover deliverables.Support the transition from construction into long-term operations and maintenance. About the Project 14MWh Battery Energy Storage System located in Gibraltar.Commercial operation achieved in 2026, with several outstanding work packages remaining.Direct engagement with government stakeholders.High-profile project supporting a standalone island power network.Remaining works include electrical completion activities, civil infrastructure, security systems, and enhanced fire safety measures.Significant focus on operational reliability, technical optimisation, and project close-out. Requirements Proven experience delivering utility-scale BESS projects.Strong engineering background with project management experience.Excellent understanding of battery systems, PCS, EMS, PPC, SCADA, and grid integration.Experience managing EPC contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.Strong electrical knowledge, including MV and LV infrastructure.Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and engineering documentation.Experience working on operational assets and post-COD project activities is highly desirable.Strong stakeholder management and client-facing experience.Fluent English communication skills.Willingness to spend significant time on site in Gibraltar. Desirable Experience Experience working on island grids or complex grid environments.Previous involvement in BESS commissioning, operations, or asset optimisation.Spanish language skills.Solar PV or hybrid renewable project experience.Experience managing high-profile projects with multiple stakeholders.
