Role: Engineering Manager (Electrical)
Location: England, UK (Hybrid)
This organisation is a fast-growing and ambitious player in the UK’s electric vehicle infrastructure sector. Operating within a wider international energy and mobility group, it blends global technical expertise with a highly responsive, UK-based delivery model. The business is focused on developing and deploying high-power charging solutions for commercial, fleet, and heavy transport applications, playing a key role in enabling the decarbonisation of road transport across the UK.
This is a highly visible, early-stage leadership role that is central to the company’s UK expansion strategy. The position requires a pragmatic, hands-on engineer capable of designing complex electrical systems while also acting as a trusted technical partner to the commercial team. The successful candidate will serve as the technical design authority, help shape the engineering function, establish technical credibility in the market, and lead the business through key industry accreditations. It offers a rare opportunity to build a technical capability from the ground up within a fast-moving growth environment, with a clearly defined progression to senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Design & Delivery (50%)
Act as the hands-on technical lead for the design and delivery of high-power DC electric vehicle charging systems, including destination charging hubs, fleet depot electrification, and heavy-duty transport infrastructure.
Produce, review, and approve all core technical design outputs, including single-line diagrams, site layouts, cable sizing calculations, containment strategies, and equipment specifications using industry-standard design tools.
Serve as the primary technical interface with UK network operators and connection providers, leading grid connection applications and managing approvals through to acceptance.
Develop, document, and standardise engineering design processes, methodologies, and technical specifications from the ground up.
Commercial & Sales Support (30%)
Act as a key technical stakeholder supporting commercial teams during early-stage client engagement, site assessments, and competitive tendering processes.
Prepare concept-level designs, budget estimates, and technical narratives that support bid submissions and business development activity.
Communicate complex technical requirements clearly to non-technical stakeholders, establishing credibility and trust with clients and internal teams from the outset.
Play a central role in the organisation’s roadmap toward achieving recognised UK electrical infrastructure accreditations, supporting long-term commercial growth.
Team & Capability Building (20%)
Shape and develop the technical function, initially coordinating external engineering resources and progressing to the recruitment and leadership of an in-house electrical design team.
Define and enforce technical standards, quality assurance frameworks, and peer-review processes across all projects.
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and project delivery teams.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential
Demonstrated, hands-on experience managing technical interfaces with UK electricity network operators and connection providers, including submission and approval of grid connection applications.
Strong background in UK electrical design, with experience across HV/LV distribution, building services, or energy and infrastructure projects.
Proficiency in industry-standard electrical design and calculation software.
Proven ability to support commercial teams through bids, proposals, and client-facing technical discussions.
Highly Desirable
Previous experience working within or alongside an independent connection provider.
Involvement in recognised UK electrical accreditation or registration schemes.
Direct design experience with DC fast-charging systems and high-power industrial installations.
Career Progression
This is a growth-focused role within a rapidly scaling UK business supported by an international parent organisation. The position is structured to evolve alongside the business:
Immediate Impact: Establishment as the recognised technical authority and a key enabler of commercial success.
Near-Term Development: Recruitment, growth, and formal leadership of an electrical design function.
Long-Term Opportunity: Progression into a director-level position with strategic, financial, and organisational responsibility as the UK operation expands.
What the Individual Brings
A degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.
A pragmatic, hands-on approach with the adaptability required in a high-growth environment, comfortable operating across both strategic and detailed technical work.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence technical peers, commercial colleagues, and external stakeholders.
Clear leadership ambition and the interpersonal capability to build, motivate, and lead a growing technical team.
A genuine interest in clean energy, electrification, and infrastructure development.
