Role: Head of Operations

Location: Johannesburg, South Africa (Hybrid)

 

As Head of Operations Africa, you will establish and lead the regional service organization, ensuring the reliable operation of hybrid renewable and battery storage systems across the continent. You will oversee on-site interventions, preventive maintenance, spare parts logistics, and customer relationships, setting the foundation for long-term system performance and client satisfaction.

 

We are looking for a technically strong, hands-on leader who combines deep electrical or control-system expertise with organizational and commercial awareness.

 

Your Responsibilities

Service Operations

  • Build and lead the regional Service Department in Johannesburg

  • Plan and coordinate on-site interventions across Sub-Saharan Africa

  • Ensure preventive and corrective maintenance of PV-BESS hybrid systems including EMS according to service standards

  • Supervise commissioning assistance, troubleshooting, and warranty interventions in coordination with global engineering and project teams

  • Manage and develop a local network of qualified service partners and technicians

Customer Support and Relationship Management

  • Act as the primary technical contact for existing customers in the region

  • Oversee service-level agreements (SLA) and ensure contractual KPIs are met

  • Support spare parts supply, cost approvals, and quotation handling

  • Coordinate remote support and escalate critical issues to central support teams

Process and Quality

  • Implement global service workflows, documentation, and ticketing systems

  • Track service metrics, incident reports, and response times and propose process improvements

  • Conduct site audits and provide training to customer O&M teams

  • Ensure all works comply with HSE standards and local regulations

Team and Development

  • Build a small but highly capable local team of service engineers and field technicians

  • Coach and train team members, ensuring strong technical and safety competence

  • Collaborate closely with global Service and Engineering divisions to continuously improve after-sales support and customer satisfaction

Required Skills and Experience

  • Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or Renewable Energy Systems, or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years of experience in service, commissioning, or O&M of PV, hybrid, or energy storage systems

  • Proven experience leading field teams and coordinating multi-site service activities

  • Solid understanding of power electronics including PCS, inverters, transformers, SCADA/EMS systems, and industrial control hardware including PLC and network components

  • Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and documentation skills

  • Excellent English communication written and spoken, German or French is an advantage

  • Based in Johannesburg, with willingness to travel across Africa up to 40 percent

  • Valid driver’s license and right to work in South Africa
