About the CompanyPiper Maddox is supporting a well-established engineering and manufacturing organization that specializes in custom metal fabrication and engineered containment solutions for highly regulated industries. For over 2 decades, they have partnered with nuclear, defense, government, and industrial customers to deliver complex, high-quality fabricated products that support critical infrastructure and national security initiatives. The company is known for its strong engineering culture, commitment to quality, and reputation as a trusted fabrication partner on some of the industry's most challenging projects.
Position OverviewWe are seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer (PE) to support the design, analysis, and execution of highly engineered fabrication and containment projects. This individual will be responsible for performing structural calculations, finite element analysis (FEA), and steel design activities while serving as the engineer of record for applicable projects. Working closely with engineering, fabrication, quality, and project management teams, this role offers the opportunity to take ownership of complex, mission-critical products supporting the nuclear, defense, and industrial sectors. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with a practical, hands-on approach and is excited by the opportunity to help build and expand the organization's engineering capabilities.
This role is ideal for an engineer who has established themselves technically and earned their PE, but is looking for more ownership, visibility, and decision-making authority than they currently have.
Day to Day:
  • Perform structural analysis and design for fabricated steel structures, containers, skids, frames, supports, and other engineered products.
  • Conduct engineering calculations, including finite element analysis, to evaluate static, dynamic, lifting, transportation, seismic, and other applicable loads.
  • Review and stamp engineering documents, calculations, and drawings as the responsible Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Partner closely with engineering, quality, operations, and fabrication teams to develop practical, manufacturable solutions and resolve technical issues.
  • Support proposals, project planning, design reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives as the organization expands its engineering capabilities.
Must Haves:
  • Active PE license in Tennessee or ability to obtain Tennessee reciprocity.
  • Civil/Structural Engineering background with strong structural steel design experience.
  • Hands-on experience performing structural analysis, including finite element analysis.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, fabrication, industrial, or engineered-to-order environments.
  • Builder mentality; excited to help grow a business, improve processes, and take ownership in a fast-growing organization.
Nice to Have:
  • Experience within nuclear, DOE, defense, power generation, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with structural analysis software such as ANSYS, STAAD.Pro, RISA-3D, or SAP2000.
  • Experience with lifting devices, transportation loads, containment systems, fabricated equipment, or large steel structures.
  • Working knowledge of nuclear quality programs such as NQA-1 or other regulated engineering environments.
Why Join?
  • Opportunity to design and analyze unique, custom-engineered products that support critical national infrastructure and energy programs.
  • Direct involvement with projects serving the nuclear, DOE, defense, and industrial markets.
  • High-visibility role with the ability to make a meaningful impact on engineering processes, standards, and company growth.
  • Collaborative, entrepreneurial environment where ideas are valued and employees are empowered to take ownership.
  • Opportunity to help build something new while working alongside an experienced team with a strong reputation for quality and execution.
