About the Role

This is a rare opportunity to join a well-funded advanced nuclear company at a pivotal stage of growth and lead the engineering organization responsible for transforming an innovative reactor concept into a deployable commercial product. The VP of Engineering will serve as the bridge between technology development and project execution, overseeing multidisciplinary engineering efforts, driving supplier and contractor engagement, and ensuring designs are translated into construction-ready deliverables. The ideal candidate is a hands-on nuclear engineering leader who thrives in complex environments, understands how to manage large engineering programs and EPC partners, and is excited by the opportunity to help shape both the technology and the organization as it prepares for first-of-a-kind deployment and future scale-up.

*This will initially be a remote role but an in-office presence in Boston will eventually be expected.*

Day to day:

  • Lead the company's engineering program from conceptual design through detailed design, translating technical requirements into construction-ready engineering packages, drawings, specifications, and work packages.
  • Manage and develop a multidisciplinary engineering organization of ~24 engineers while coordinating engineering contractors, suppliers, EPC partners, and other technical stakeholders.
  • Drive engineering execution, schedules, design reviews, technical governance, and integration across multiple complex workstreams and interfaces.
  • Oversee supplier and EPC contractor selection, performance, scope, costs, and deliverables while ensuring compliance with nuclear safety, quality, licensing, and construction requirements.
  • Travel periodically to supplier facilities, contractor offices, and future project sites to support execution and relationship management.

Must Haves:

  • Nuclear Engineering degree and 15+ years of leadership experience delivering complex nuclear engineering projects.
  • Proven experience leading engineering programs from concept development through detailed design, execution, and project delivery.
  • Strong track record managing multidisciplinary teams, major engineering contractors, EPC contractors, and EPC contracts.
  • Experience delivering large, highly integrated engineering programs with numerous stakeholders, interfaces, and workstreams.
  • Deep understanding of nuclear design, licensing, safety, quality, and configuration management requirements.
  • Ability to translate technical complexity into actionable engineering deliverables while controlling scope, risk, cost, and contractor performance.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with advanced reactors, SMRs, molten salt reactors, or other first-of-a-kind nuclear technologies.
  • Experience working with suppliers, fabricators, shipyards, modular construction, or manufacturing-intensive project environments.
  • Advanced degree in Nuclear Engineering.
  • Experience supporting projects through procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup.
  • Experience scaling engineering organizations during periods of rapid growth and project execution.
