Accounting Manager | Clean Energy Platform

Location: Pennsylvania or Houston, TX (Hybrid/Onsite)

Salary: $150,000 - $170,000 + Bonus + PE Equity Package

 

About the Role

Piper Maddox has been retained by a leading, private equity-backed renewable energy IPP to recruit an Accounting Manager.

Backed by top-tier institutional capital, the platform acquires, operates, and optimizes utility-scale wind, solar, and battery storage (BESS) assets across major US power markets (PJM, ERCOT, CAISO). Having rapidly expanded its portfolio past 1.5 GW, the company is scaling its finance group to support both core operational accounting and active M&A transactions.

Reporting directly to the Director of Accounting, this role oversees financial operations across the asset portfolio while working closely with plant management, executive leadership, and M&A teams to execute project integrations and technical accounting oversight.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Operations & Reporting: Manage daily accounting workflows, monthly and quarterly close cycles, general ledger reconciliations, and consolidated GAAP financial statements across all operating entities.

  • Renewable Asset Accounting: Oversee sector-specific accounting functions, including tax equity models, HLBV updates, RECs, capacity payments, and project-level operating costs.

  • M&A & Deal Integration: Partner with finance and M&A teams on accounting due diligence, technical research (ASC 842, revenue recognition), and financial integration for newly acquired assets.

  • Audit & Compliance: Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, lead annual audit processes, and oversee tax compliance coordination.

  • Leadership & Controls: Guide and mentor accounting staff while refining internal controls, systems, and operational efficiency.

 

Qualifications

  • Experience: 7 to 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 to 5 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.

  • Credentials: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; active CPA license strongly preferred.

  • Industry Focus: Direct experience in power generation, energy, utilities, or renewable energy platforms (solar, wind, storage).

  • Technical Strengths: Strong background in project finance accounting, complex partnership structures, and tax equity transactions.

Our client are a fully fledged IPP covering the development, construction, and operation of large scale Onshore Wind projects. They currently have multiple assets under operational management so have a demonstrable track record of success in the full project lifecycle. This company were established over 20 years ago, so are a very stable organization with a strong portfolio of projects at different stages of development. Within their portfolio, they are also looking at different renewable technologies to diversify in the future. They have a very strong company culture in terms of a highly collaborative environment. The team have a great reputation for pulling in the same direction, which has created an atmosphere off togetherness. The Property Manager role would sit in their Land team, reporting to their Head of Land and would suit someone from a legal or commercial property background. Prior experience in the renewable energy sector is required, although the project technology can be varied. In this role, you would be responsible for managing key commercial contracts within the land transaction and the development process, including: > Heads of Terms> Land Option & Lease Agreements> Wayleaves, Easements, Servitudes> Fulfilling obligations within the lease agreements> Managing property registers and titles relevant to the project portfolio> Due diligence on land & property considerations within potential project acquisitions The outlined backgrounds in legal or commercial property are preferred due to this role being less involved in site origination/land acquisition, and more tailored to the commercial contracts needed to complete these transactions. They are full project lifecycle IPP, working from early stage developments, building and owning assets as well as the operations.They've operated for over 25 years, in that time generating an extensive portfolio and are looking to grow this across new assets.
