HSE Manager – Renewable Energy (Solar PV & BESS)

Location: Germany (Berlin / national project travel)

 

A global energy and industrial organisation is expanding its renewable energy division in Germany and is seeking an experienced HSE Manager to lead health, safety, and environmental activities across utility-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage (BESS) projects.

 

This is a senior role responsible for shaping HSE strategy, ensuring regulatory compliance, and embedding a proactive safety culture across the full project lifecycle including development, construction, commissioning, and early operations.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all HSE activities across utility-scale solar and BESS projects nationwide
  • Ensure compliance with German legislation, EU directives, and internal HSE standards
  • Act as the primary HSE interface with project teams, contractors, clients, and authorities
  • Support pre-construction risk assessments, design risk reviews, and HSE planning
  • Oversee site audits, inspections, reporting, and contractor HSE performance
  • Lead incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective action planning
  • Review RAMS, ensure safe systems of work, and monitor contractor compliance
  • Support HSE governance and office compliance requirements in Berlin

 

Requirements

  • Recognised HSE qualification mandatory
  • Degree or technical qualification in engineering or related discipline
  • 5+ years of HSE leadership experience within EPC construction environment
  • Experience on utility-scale solar and/or BESS projects preferred
  • Strong knowledge of German HSE legislation
  • Fluent German and English
  • Willingness to travel nationally across project sites
