About the Role:

As the Business Development Director, you'll play a dual role-driving high-value business opportunities while mentoring and leading a small, ambitious team. You'll be selling consultative, customized solutions to government clients, overseeing long-cycle deals (9-12 months) that solve real operational and financial problems for public agencies.

This is not a hand-off-the-proposal-and-wait type of sales environment. You'll be actively shaping strategy, managing complex client relationships, and guiding your team to meet and exceed their sales targets. What You'll Do:

  • Lead and grow a regional business development team

  • Drive revenue through both new business development and existing account growth

  • Conduct consultative sales engagements with public sector clients (state and local government)

  • Navigate complex, long-cycle sales (9-12 months) and build stakeholder consensus

  • Support team in achieving and exceeding sales quotas

  • Collaborate on strategy, proposals, and presentations-hands-on, not just oversight

  • Work closely with marketing, engineering, and proposal teams

Requirements:

  • 8-15 years in B2B sales, ideally in public or government sectors.

  • Demonstrated success in consultative, high-value solution sales

  • Interest and ability to lead a small team while maintaining personal sales responsibilities.

  • Strong presentation, stakeholder engagement, and proposal development experience.

  • Background in government, construction, energy, or related industries

  • Remote role, but needs to be based in GA, TN, FL

Piper Maddox have recently partnered with a leading U.S.-based electrical contractor in an effort to continue the build out of their Solar Superintendent group.This organization have a dedicated renewable energy division that focuses on turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for solar energy systems. This division specializes in commercial and industrial (C&I) scale solar projects, typically ranging up to 30 megawatts (MW) in capacity.
